Last week, we reported that Adidas had entered the metaverse. Less than a week later, their biggest competitor, Nike joined the party. Unlike Adidas that entered via a collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, gmoney NFT, and PUNKS Comic, Nike entered via the purchase of RTFKT, a virtual sneakers and collectibles brand.
According to Nike, acquiring RTFKT will help the company “deliver next-generation collectibles that merge culture and gaming.”
This is great news for all the builders in the space, particularly those building the metaverse. It’s interesting to see how all this will play out. Will the same big brands dominate the metaverse, or will new brands rise to the ascendancy?
