Dear NFT enthusiast,
Last week, the USA’s Department of Justice hit the ‘Baller Ape’ NFT rug puller with money laundering and wire fraud charges. We imagined how the rug puller would have received the news, given that if found guilty, (s)he could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a hefty fine. Quite unfortunate.
In a predominantly digital culture (which NFTs and crypto are), it is easy for people to lose sight of the realness of the interactions we make. Because the blockchain does not store our real identities, it is tempting to take the easy way and cause havoc in other people’s lives. However, with the same power, we can create life or destroy it.
For example, when we buy NFTs (especially from the artists themselves), we validate and enable another human being’s way of life. This is powerful. NFTs are, at their core, a way for us to build more meaningful digital relationships with ourselves whether we’re artists, founders, builders, celebrities, fans, or collectors. May we never lose sight of this non-fungible realness.
Thank you for reading and have a great week.
