NFT Review is a weekly newsletter covering NFTs in the Web3 ecosystem on Polkadot’s side of the woods. The newsletter is put together by Bruno Škvorc and gbaci.

Looking for a primer on NFTs? This should be the last introduction you’ll ever need.

Dear NFT enthusiast,

A few weeks back, the NFT industry was moving towards boycotting creator royalties. First were the Solana-based NFT marketplaces, then some on the Ethereum side. At some point, OpenSea, the industry leader by size and revenue, considered following the flock. But following backlash from the creator community, it retraced its steps.

Now X2Y2, one of the early adopters of the royalty boycott, has announced that it would now enforce creator royalties on all existing and future collections. This sets a trend. Will more royalty boycotters reverse their position?

Whatever the case, it is great to see the power of the creator community used to good effect in upholding best practices. In the aftermath of the FTX clusterfuck, we need more proactive action by the community in shaping the rules of the ecosystem.

In other marketplace news, OpenSea’s Seaport Protocol onboards creators and NFT holders on BNB Chain. At this point, it is redundant to proclaim “the future is multi-chain”. We are already living the multi-chain reality.

Thank you for reading and have a great week.
