Looking for a primer on NFTs? This should be the last introduction you’ll ever need.
Dear NFT enthusiast,
On 3rd January, hackers made Magic Eden turn porno after hacking ME's hosting service. Following a wave of tweets by confused users, the project assured its users that their NFTs were safe.
This is not the first time NFTs have displayed the ‘wrong’ images. Last November, FTX-hosted NFTs pointed to a restructuring website that had information on the firms' bankruptcy proceedings.
Given how surprised people were at both events, it is obvious that many people do not understand how NFTs are stored (and by extension, how they are centralized or decentralized). These events were possible due to the choice of NFT storage solution used by Magic Eden and FTX.
Thus, we recommend that every NFT enthusiast take time to learn the basics of NFT storage. This will help you better determine which NFTs are built on the right infrastructure. We wrote an article to help - How NFTs are Stored and Decentralized.
