Looking for a primer on NFTs? This should be the last introduction you’ll ever need.
Dear NFT enthusiast,
Today’s introduction is slightly different, consider it a call to action. ZachXBT, popularly known for his in-depth and fact-laden exposure of crypto and NFT scams, has been sued by MachiBigBrother (Jeff Huang) for an article Zach published in June 2022. The article titled ‘22,000 ETH Embezzled and Over Ten Projects Failed: The Story of Machi Big Brother (Jeff Huang)’ featured an extensive overview of Machi’s history in the crypto space including the embezzlement of 22,000 ETH from Formosa Financial and the launch of over ten failed pump and dump tokens and NFT projects.
In a tweet thread, ZachXBT asked the crypto community to help him with the legal cost of this suit using NFTs. He wrote:
“Today Machi filed the defamation lawsuit. The lawsuit is baseless and an attempt to chill free speech. I intend to fight back & defend free speech…My understanding is that Machi is very wealthy. I am not. He is using his money to try silence me. I’m asking for your help so this doesn’t happen & the truth survives…I am creating a donation address to assist with legal costs associated with the defense of this matter, which could easily exceed $1m USD. All leftover funds will be returned on a pro rata basis to contributors…Donation wallet address ETH: 0x6eA158145907a1fAc74016087611913A96d96624”
Silencing voices like ZachXBT threatens the transparency and accountability in the crypto and NFT space, potentially enabling unchecked malpractices, scams, and lack of information that could harm investors and overall community trust. This undermines the potential for a self-regulated, fair, and sustainable ecosystem in the decentralized world. If you care about the healthy self-regulation of the crypto and NFT space, then you should consider helping out Zach.
Thank you for reading and have a great week.
